Richardson officials confirmed that their fire department responded to a blaze Monday morning at an AT&T switching station at 1666 Firman Drive. An electrical fire there burned an electrical room and took out the primary and backup electrical systems.

There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire has not been determined, according to a Richardson statement.

The website Downdetector.com, which monitors tweets and other social media comments, showed that reports of outages spiked about 11 a.m. Its heat map pointed to North Texas as the area most severely affected.

The service showed minimal outages in the previous 24 hours, which then spiked to more than 1,200 just after noon Monday.
