Coach Jim Montgomery was pleased with a number of areas of the Bruins’ game in the series opener on Saturday night, including the physical nature of their play and the way they kept Toronto at bay offensively. He’d like to see it continue.
“I liked our physicality, that’s got to be repeated,” said Montgomery. “I liked how we got over top of people, didn’t give up too much off the rush. That’s really important against an electric offensive team.”
Veteran blue liner Kevin Shattenkirk added that there is still plenty for the Bruins’ to improve upon despite their 5-1 win in Game 1.
"I think we know that we're gonna get a team that's gonna be playing very desperate. I'm sure they're gonna make corrections in their game,” said Shattenkirk. “I think the great part about [Sunday] and today is that there were a lot of things that we can work on, too, to improve our game. That wasn't our ceiling, by any means. We can be a lot better in certain areas. It’s an awesome opportunity for us to level up.”
