Orlando Bloom is opening up about falling in love with Katy Perry and why he “wouldn’t change it for anything.”

The actor recently appeared on the What Now? With Trevor Noah podcast, where he shared details about their relationship after host Trevor Noah pointed out their attempt at a life of “peace” and “normalcy,” despite being in the spotlight.

“I think one of the things that I fell in love with Katy was … she hates when I say this, so I have to word it carefully, but her music was everywhere, right?” the Lord of the Rings star said in response. “When I came up, it was just on every radio station, but I wasn’t conscious of … [it] wasn’t what I was listening to, but, I fell in love with Katheryn, this girl from Santa Barbara.”

Bloom continued to note how the singer was raised, adding, “And by the way, parents, pastors, living on food stamps. We’re not talking glamorous, Montecito.” … It’s the “side [of Santa Barbara] that no one knows.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor said one reason they have such a strong connection is that they both have an “understanding [of] where we came from, what we worked to do, what we had to do to get to where we got to,” adding that Perry “definitely demands that I evolve.

“I feel I do the same for her. And that makes for fireworks, pardon the pun,” Bloom added, referencing the singer’s hit 2010 song “Firework.” “But it also makes for a lot of fun and a lot of growth.”

The pair initially met at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016 and got engaged in 2019 on Valentine’s Day. They share a 3-year-old daughter. Bloom also has a son with his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr.

Bloom later said of their life together, “I wouldn’t change it for anything, even when sometimes it feels like, ‘How do we do this?’ Because we’ve got these two giant careers and lives, and hers is even, you know … it’s like a universe sometimes. But I think I just keep coming back to her and trying to hold her hand and walk her back to the sand pit and be like … we’re just gonna build a sandcastle.”

He also noted the importance of the “little moments,” adding that Perry is a “master” of helping to “keep building those moments.”

In the Red Right Hand actor’s new docuseries, Orlando Bloom: To the Edge — now streaming on Peacock — he gives an inside look at some of his and Perry’s private moments together.
