Report: Real Madrid Give Santiago Solari New Contract to Be Permanent Manager

Real Madrid have reportedly made Santiago Solari their new permanent manager and have sent the contract reflecting his new status to the Spanish Football Federation.

Marca's Miguel Angel Lara backed up a report from ESPN that said as much after Sunday's 4-2 win over Celta Vigo.

Solari became interim boss after he replaced Julen Lopetegui on October 29. La Liga rules dictate interim coaches can only remain in charge of a team for two weeks, and Monday marks that limit for Solari.

According to El Chiringuito (h/t AS), after guiding Los Blancos to four consecutive wins in his tenure as a caretaker, he'll be in charge for the rest of the season.

The Argentinian would not be drawn on his future after the win against Celta, but appeared relaxed about the situation, per AS:

Real director Emilio Butragueno would not confirm if Solari would be staying on, either, but he was full of praise for the coach after the match.

He told Movistar+ (h/t Goal's Dejan Kalinic): "The truth is that we are very happy with him. There is no doubt that he came at a very particular moment and has been able to achieve very good results. It was a very complicated game and we also had setbacks with injuries, [but] we had personality and character."

It's little wonder Madrid are happy with Solari given the improvement the team have shown since he took charge, per Tom Allnutt of Agence France-Presse:

Per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan, while Los Blancos have benefited from some good fortune under Solari they did not enjoy when Lopetegui was in charge, they've also had to come through adversity:

Indeed, Madrid managed to secure three points on Sunday despite the forced withdrawals of Casemiro, Nacho and Sergio Reguilon at the Estadio Municipal de Balaidos.

Solari has restored the confidence and positive atmosphere that was lacking from the team at the end of Lopetegui's tenure, and there are few top candidates available for Real to bring in as their next permanent manager right now.

As such, keeping him in charge until the end of the season—when they can make a full assessment of his performance and will have more options if they want to replace him—seems a wise course of action.
