Blackhawks News: Marc-André Fleury is heading to Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded for Marc-Andre Fleury of the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday morning. This is big news for the franchise as they move forward, and try and compete for a playoff spot.

Marc-Andre Fleury is the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, and he is now on the Blackhawks, but it is not a done deal yet.

There is a real chance that Fleury retires after being traded as he did not want to play for any team except for Vegas. If he does choose to hang up his skates, it will not cost the team much as reportedly by CapFriendly in the following tweet:

So the Blackhawks are sending a minor league player in Mikael Hakkarainen. This is big news for the team as now they can potentially have a goalie tandem of Lankinen and Fleury for a season. Chicago has actually put together a pretty good roster with the addition of Jones and now Fleury.

The only thing the team needs to be conscious of is whether or not Fleury does decide to play. He was great last season in Vegas and could be a great mentor, but a new team might not be in his plan.

I really did not expect a trade like this to get done. The fact that Stan Bowman and company sent basically nothing to Vegas for Fleury is a steal in my opinion, yes losing the cap space hurts, but it is just for one season and they still can mess around with some LTIR during the year or trade a contract before the season begins.

This trade might explain why the Blackhawks did not qualify Suter yesterday. Now they have a big contract on the books that is going to take up a lot of space for the coming season. This is a big win for the Blackhawks if Fleury does decide to play this season.
