Chlöe Bailey's solo debut has arrived, and her new music video turns her into a 21st century Medusa, running a very special kind of sorority.

At midnight on Friday, September 10, Chlöe (who appears to have dropped her last name, the way she does in Chlöe x Halle), released the brand new music video for her sensual, feel good single “Have Mercy.” The song and video came after teasing fans with a video trailer that has already been a hit on TikTok with the #HaveMercyChallenge. She also built anticipation by sharing the cover art and shots and teaser clips from the music video itself, which is directed by Karena Evans.

The video clearly takes inspiration from Greek mythology, with Chloe as a Medusa-esque sorority president seducing frat guys with her captivating choreography and charm before turning them into stone. Dressed in workout clothes, bejeweled bikinis, and high-fashion gowns, she declares her individuality, reinforcing the point with her excellently-styled blonde dreadlocks. The pink sets in the video would have made Elle Woods very proud. To top it all off, the video features cameos from singer Bree Runway, actor Rome Flynn, and Beyonce’s own mother Tina Knowles-Lawson.

Written by Zac, Joseph L’Étranger, Marquis Gasque, Finatik, Murda Beat, TT The Artist, Theron Thomas, Nija, and Chlöe and produced by Chlöe herself, the lyrics talk about the singer being a boss chick and how men can’t get her out of their minds. “Boy, you lookin' at me like I ain't give you no choice/If I count to three, bet you be on your knees/You wrapped 'round my hand like Cartier,” she raps.

After seeing the official video, fans took to the internet to share their elation, trending the hashtag #HAVEMERCY.

Now that the music video has been released, Chlöe has already received congratulatory comments from industry peers including Lil Nas X, SZA, Rina Sawayama, Gabrielle Union, and of course, Chlöe’s sister Halle Bailey. Chloe is set to showcase the first live performance of “Have Mercy” at the MTV VMAs this Sunday, and we cannot wait.
