Liverpool closed the gap on leaders Manchester City to nine points after beating Crystal Palace 3-1 at Selhurst Park.

Jurgen Klopp's side came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead after just eight minutes. Virgil van Djik was left unmarked from Andy Robertson's corner and his bullet header found the back of the net. Liverpool continued to dominate and doubled their lead in the 32nd minute. Robertson grabbed his second assist of the game as his cross found Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who slotted the ball past Vicente Guaita.

Crystal Palace grew into the game and squandered two excellent opportunities towards the end of the first half. They started the second half strongly and were rewarded when Odsonne Edouard guided the ball into an empty net from Jean-Philippe Mateta's pull-back in the 55th minute.

Patrick Vieira's men continued to mount pressure but were unable to find the goal they needed. Liverpool sealed the win when they were awarded a penalty after Guaita collided into Diogo Jota inside the box. Fabinho stepped up to take the penalty and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

The result leaves Liverpool within nine points of City, with a game in-hand. Crystal Palace, meanwhile, remain 13th after the defeat.
