The man behind "Woj bombs" instead dropped an "F-bomb" in response to an email from a United States senator's office.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., wrote a letter to NBA commissioner Adam Silver earlier Friday calling on the league to write messages of support on team jerseys for police, the U.S. military and Hong Kong protesters. The NBA already has plans for players to wear messages supporting social justice causes on their jerseys, and courts will have "Black Lives Matter" painted on them.

ESPN NBA reporter Adrian Wojnarowski, upon receiving a press release from Hawley's office, responded with two words: "(Expletive) you."

Hawley posted a screenshot of the reply on Twitter.

Wojnarowski released an apologetic statement not long after.

"I was disrespectful and I made a regrettable mistake," Wojnarowski said. "I'm sorry for the way I handled myself and I am reaching out immediately to Senator Hawley to apologize directly. I also need to apologize to my ESPN colleagues because I know my actions were unacceptable and should not reflect on any of them."

ESPN issued its own condemnation of one of its top reporters' actions.

"This is completely unacceptable behavior and we do not condone it," a statement read. "It is inexcusable for anyone working for ESPN to respond in the way Adrian did to Senator Hawley. We are addressing it directly with Adrian and specifics of those conversations will remain internal."
