Evacuations Ordered As Blue Ridge Fire Threatens Homes In Yorba Linda, Chino Hills

YORBA LINDA (CBSLA) — A wildfire threatened homes Monday in Yorba Linda after breaking out on the west end of Corona and quickly growing to 3,000 acres — causing heavy damage to at least one residence.

According to authorities, the Blue Ridge Fire broke out just before 1 p.m. next to the Green River Golf Club, just off Green River Road and the 91 Freeway. By 5 p.m., it had grown to more than 1,100 acres and caused the mandatory evacuation of 1,170 homes. An additional 481 homes were under voluntary evacuation orders.

Evacuation orders have been issued for areas north of the 91 Freeway, east of Gypsum Canyon, including Bryant Ranch Elementary School. Students from the school were bused to Esperanza High School, 1830 Kellogg Drive in Anaheim, to be reunited with their parents.

The Hidden Hills area of Yorba Linda has also been placed under mandatory evacuations.

A temporary evacuation point has been established at the Thomas Lasorda Jr. Field House, 4701 Casa Loma Ave., in Yorba Linda.

An evacuation order was issued Monday evening for residents in the Carbon Canyon area, including the Sleepy Hollow area and Vellano Country Club Estates.

A temporary evacuation center had been set up at the Chino Hills Community Center, 14250 Peyton Drive. Large animals can be taken to the McCoy’s Equestrian Center, 14280 Peyton Drive.

Workers at the Nixon Library worked to protect the home where Richard Nixon was born by hosing down its roof.

Officials said Orange County Fire Authority water-dropping helicopters were called to attack the fire from above, but strong winds prevented them from immediately getting over the blaze.

Fire crews were also battling the Silverado Fire near Irvine, which has already burned 7,200 acres.
