Final: Chiefs hold onto late lead, defeating Browns 33-29

CLEVELAND (WJW)– Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns took on the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of the 2020 AFC Divisional Round.

Still, after the Browns held a lead through the first three quarters, the Chiefs came out on top with a 33-29 victory.

The Browns kicked things off by scoring on their opening drive, taking an early lead. Nick Chubb made the first rushing touchdown of the season.

The 28-yard field goal from Harrison Butker put the Chiefs on the board.

Jarvis Landry made a 5-yard run into the end-zone, widening the Browns’ lead.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes ran it in for their first touchdown of the night.

Chubb then made his second touchdown of the night, the Browns still in the lead going into halftime.

Moving into the third quarter, Mahomes found Travis Kelce for a Chiefs touchdown.

A 43-yard field goal by Butker was good in the third, but the Browns came back in the fourth with a touchdown by Kareem Hunt.

Just after the Browns took a 9-point lead, Chiefs returned with another touchdown.

Kelce then scored his second of the night, giving the Chiefs a 33-29 lead which the kept through the rest of the game.

The last time these two teams met, the Chiefs won 22-17, led by two touchdowns from quarterback Patrick Mahomes. They would later punch their ticket to the Super Bowl, where they would fall to the Buccaneers.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. didn’t play in Sunday’s game, along with the following six others:
