Flash flood warning: roadways flood as heavy rain continues
The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for several counties in Central New York, with heavy rain leaving water pooled or flowing on roadways throughout the area.
We’ve seen reports of flooded roadways along Meadow Street in Ithaca’s southwest near Wegmans and Tops, Route 13 northeast of Ithaca between NYSEG and the New York State Police headquarters, Route 96 near Taughannock Falls State Park, Ellis Hollow Road, and Cherry Road and North Triphammer Road in Lansing.
Dryden Central School District says afternoon buses are delayed due to flooding on area roads.
A flood warning is also in effect for Cayuga Lake, which was nearing flood stage early Tuesday afternoon. The National Weather Service says the lake level had reached 382.9 feet. Flood stage is 383.5 feet, and moderate flooding is forecast.
Forecasters expect the lake level to rise above flood stage on Wednesday morning, and continue rising to about 384.1 feet on Friday morning. Parks near the lake may flood, and properties along the shore in the Towns of Ulysses and Lansing may be affected.
