Golden Globes Snubs: 'Mank,' 'Promising Young Woman' Among Top Film Nominees Shut Out
Five-time film nominee 'The Trial of the Chicago 7' only won one award out of the five for which it was nominated, with 'Ozark' and 'The Undoing' among the TV series with multiple nominations that failed to win a single award.
While the teams behind projects like Nomadland, Borat and The Crown have much to celebrate following multiple wins at the 2021 Golden Globes, for other multiple nominees, the evening was a disappointment.
David Fincher's passion project Mank, about the screenwriter of Citizen Kane, went into the show with a leading six film nominations but failed to win a single award.
Similarly, four-time nominees The Father and Promising Young Woman also failed to win a single award, despite some prognosticators expecting Carey Mulligan to win the best actress in a motion picture drama prize that was captured by The United States vs. Billie Holiday star Andra Day, whose film just hit Hulu days ago.
Other notable snubs in individual film categories include Borat breakout Maria Bakalova, who failed to win the best actress in a motion picture musical or comedy award despite being listed as a favorite by a number of experts. Instead, that award went to I Care A Lot star Rosamund Pike.
Meanwhile, five-time film nominee The Trial of the Chicago 7 only won one award out of the five for which it was nominated, with Aaron Sorkin taking home the best screenplay trophy.
On the TV side, while six-time nominee The Crown won four awards, including for best drama series, four-time nominees Ozark and The Undoing failed to win a single award. Other TV nominees that failed to win a single award, despite experts' picks, include best drama nominee Lovecraft Country and two-time comedy nominee The Flight Attendant.
The Golden Globe Awards ceremony is produced by Dick Clark Productions, a division of MRC, which is a co-owner of The Hollywood Reporter through a joint venture with Penske Media titled P-MRC.
