Such was the case with the perennially quirky, perennially cool person known as Grimes. As a baby mama to Elon Musk, she has done things a bit differently, to say the least. Apparently, that included her pregnancy diet. In a 2020 YouTube video, Grimes discusses recipes she enjoyed eating while pregnant. Among them was "Couscous Sludge."
The "Sludge" involves couscous, tomatoes, vegan mayonnaise, sriracha, celery, and spinach that are all mixed up into a slurry. Unsurprisingly, people at BuzzFeed decided to try it out and see how it tastes. The reaction from the tester was less than pleasant, with the writer's first impression being that it "looked like a savory porridge gone wrong." It's a dish named "sludge" by a person named "Grimes." What do you expect?
According to the BuzzFeed tester, the sludge actually lived up to its name. So, it was an accurate depiction of what people should expect. She notes, "Like, the taste wasn't horrible- but it was by no means enjoyable. The texture was weird (extremely sludgey, but also sort of crunchy?!) and it smelled kinda funky (probably the vegenaise and Sriracha)." Grimes' revelation even sparked a conversation about whether the dish is actually as bad as some people thought it was.
