'I heard a crack': Jessica Chastain says she was hospitalized while filming 'The 355'

Jessica Chastain didn't leave the set of her upcoming action film "The 355" unscathed.

The actress told James Corden during Wednesday's episode of "The Late Late Show with James Corden" she "actually had to go to the hospital" during filming because she hurt her head while doing her own stunts.

"I was doing a fight scene and it was on a marble floor. I misjudged. I had to like fall and hit my head. I misjudged the distance. I heard a crack," Chastain said.

The actress said she was stunned in the moment, and everyone on set stopped and looked frightened.

"My stunt double comes up to me, and she was so sweet. She is French and doesn't speak a lot of English, and she comes up to me and goes, 'I'm sorry but I have to put it back in,' " Chastain said. "And I'm sitting there like, 'Put what back in? Are my brains outside of my face? What's happening?' "

Thankfully, her stunt double was trying to "push in" the bruise on her head. Chastain said she "doesn't give up easy," so she did a few more takes before going to the hospital.

"She didn't want to go (to the hospital)," said co-star Penélope Cruz, who appeared alongside Chastain on Corden's show andnoted she was "so relieved" her character didn't have to engage in fight scenes.

"The 355" (in theaters Friday) follows a group of women, played by Chastain, Cruz, Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong'o, as they try to save the world.

Director Simon Kinberg told Insider in an interview published Thursday that Chastain wanted to do her own stunts.

"She is game for everything and anything. She is tenacious. She is focused, driven, committed in a way that I've seen very few actors in my career. It's one of the reasons I love working with her. It's also one of the things that terrify me."
