Korean actor Kim Seon-ho has released a statement apologizing for the actions speculated about in a recent online post. According to the Korea Times, the star of the popular Netflix drama Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha issued the statement via his agency Salt Entertainment.

The statement responded to an online accusation that he had coerced a former girlfriend into having an abortion. The statement by the unnamed woman said she was dating the star when she got pregnant and was convinced to have an abortion with the promise that they would eventually get married.

If it was discovered that she was pregnant the star would have to pay for violating advertising contracts that define acceptable behavior on the part of the actor/model. The woman said she had the abortion, but they broke up shortly thereafter. The online accuser named the star simply as “K” but the post went viral and the scandal soon focused on Kim. The agency did not respond for a few days and then issued a statement apologizing to anyone who has been disappointed and damaged by the recent controversy surrounding the actor.

Via his agency, Kim wrote, “I and the person were in a relationship exchanging good feelings. Over the course of the relationship, I hurt her due to my mistakes and inconsiderate actions. I wanted to directly apologize to her in person, but I failed to do so and am waiting for the time when I can do so.”

According to Yonhap News, the actor also apologized to fans for disappointing them and to his colleagues who worked with him. He has canceled all scheduled interviews, as have all the actors who appeared in Hometown Cha Cha Cha, which recently finished airing.

The actor achieved new heights in his career with his first leading role in the successful drama Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, after becoming popular playing the second lead in the Netflix drama Start-Up. In South Korea the drama aired on the tvN cable network and became one of the highest-rated cable series ever. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, which also starred Shin Min-ah, reached the top 10 Netflix dramas internationally. The high ratings prompted speculation that there might be a second season.

Kim will no longer appear on the popular reality show Two Days and One Night. He has been a regular since 2019. He is being replaced in two upcoming film projects, Two O’Clock Date and Dog Days, both of which are romantic comedies. The producers of another film that he was due to appear in, Sad Tropics, have not yet reached a decision about his role.

He has already been removed from ads for Domino’s Pizza, the outdoor clothing brand NAU and skin care company La Roche-Posay .
