UPDATE: Per NFL.com’s Ian Rapaport, X-rays on Mac Jones’s ankle came back negative, but the Patriots will continue to evaluate him. The Athletic reported that Jones will need an MRI, since the Patriots are concerned he has a high ankle sprain which wouldn’t show up on an X-ray.

The Patriots lost their game against the Ravens 37-26 on Sunday, and may have lost quarterback Mac Jones as well.

With 1:44 remaining in the fourth quarter and the Patriots trailing by 11, Jones dropped back and fired a deep pass to Kendrick Bourne. The throw was picked off by Marcus Peters, but Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell administered the damage — landing hard on Jones’s left leg.

“I think I was just trying to get pressure on [Jones], hit him, make him uncomfortable and make him throw an interception,” Cambell said. “And I think that was just a good football play. I hate to see him get hurt. That’s the worst part of this game. You never want to see guys get hurt. I hope he’s OK.”

Jones jumped up and immediately hopped to the sideline. He was helped off the field without putting any weight on the leg, and as he left the field, he could be heard “screaming in pain” according to Boston Sports Journal’s Greg Bedard.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick told reporters after the game that he had no update on Jones and said he had not seen the play. Jones did not speak to the media postgame but reportedly will address reporters on Monday.

Likewise, Devin McCourty was asked multiple times about Jones, but he repeated several times that he was waiting for the quarterback to be evaluated.

“You ask level of concern — I have no idea because I know if he has something he can go and play with, he’s going to play with it,” McCourty said. “We’ll have to see what it is and go from there as a team. I think we’ll continue to rally around him. I think we’ve always talked about it my whole time here, it’s always the next-man-up mentality if it comes to that. We’ll wait and see what Monday and Tuesday look like. We’ll get ready to go Wednesday for next week.”

Jones also suffered a back injury that required X-rays in the Patriots’ Week 1 loss to the Dolphins after taking a big hit. He returned and played in Week 2, helping lead the Patriots to a win over the Steelers.

Jones completed 22-of-32 passes for 321 yards on Sunday, but he threw three interceptions in the loss, which dropped the Patriots to 1-2.

“They were able to take advantage of our mistakes,” Belichick said. “We weren’t able to capitalize on — I would say — probably as many of theirs. All the way across the board, just a few plays here and there that we need to play better, need to coach better, need to do better. But we certainly made too many mistakes today to be able to win.”
