Mark Ruffalo Admits It's 'Not Easy Being Married to an Actor': It's 'Distorting and Difficult' (Exclusive)
Mark Ruffalo admits his acting career can be a challenge for his family.
The Poor Things actor, 56, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Star Thursday, with his wife Sunrise Coigney and two of their kids there to support him.
At the ceremony, Ruffalo told PEOPLE it was the "most glorious thing" to have his loved ones there since the honor is "theirs as much as it is mine."
"It's not easy being married to an actor and being the children of an actor. I'm away a lot," he says. "This whole thing is distorting and difficult."
He says his kids, Keen, 22, Bella, 18, and Odette, 16, now have something tangible to represent his hard work as an actor all these years.
“For them to see this in concrete, in a place that hopefully will be here for much longer than I am, and they'll be able to come here with their kids one day, and maybe their kids' kids," says Ruffalo. "The one thing that I took away from walking up and down this boulevard for all the years that I was going to school here was that there was some continuity. There was a tradition."

“And that tradition carries on even when you're gone,” he adds. “Nothing is more a monument to that than Hollywood Boulevard in the weirdest, cheesiest way. It still has this incredible meaning.”
During his acceptance speech, Ruffalo thanked his family for supporting his career, saying they "let me go off and bring these crazy people home and they have to live with all these years. Thank you, guys."
This isn’t the first time the Avengers actor has gotten candid about the challenges of raising children while being an actor. In a November 2019 interview with PEOPLE, Ruffalo said balancing the two parts of his life has gotten difficult at times.
"It's intense," he said. "The times when my wife is gone and I've had to take care of everything … the laundry alone is enough to destroy you." Though, he praised his actress wife of over 20 years for being "just a hero" and shouldering the responsibilities when he was away.
