'My heart is shattered': Jamie Foxx mourns sister DeOndra Dixon's death at 36

Jamie Foxx is mourning the death of his sister DeOndra Dixon.

According to a tribute from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation posted Saturday, Dixon died on Oct. 19 at the age of 36. She was a global ambassador for the organization and the first recipient of the foundation's highest honor, the Quincy Jones Exceptional Advocacy Award.

Foxx, 52, took to Instagram on Monday to share the news of his sister's death, writing that his heart is "shattered into a million pieces."

"My beautiful loving sister Deondra has transitioned," he wrote, captioning an album of photos of Dixon through the years. "I say transitioned because she will always be alive..."

Foxx described his sister as a "bright light" who always livened up the dance floor. She even made an appearance dancing in Foxx's 2009 music video for "Blame It," featuring T-Pain.

"I know she is in heaven now dancing with her wings on," he continued. "tho my pain is unbelievable I smile when I think of all of the great memories that she left me... my family... and her friends… from sliding down my stairs with a grin as wide as the rio grand... to serenading us with all of her music... Deondra you have left A hole in my heart... but I will fill it with all of the memories that you gave me..."

He capped off his post asking his followers to please keep his family in their prayers.

"I love you with every ounce of me," he wrote. "our family is shattered but we will put the pieces back together with your love"

On Saturday, the Global Down Syndrome Foundation posted a tribute to Dixon, describing her as a "talented, intelligent, feisty, beautiful, kind, loving, caring, pure and giving heart."

"Our Down syndrome community has lost a beacon of hope, a true leader, and role model whose aim was to always help others," the tribute continued. "She was a bright light in this world of ours."

The organization also commended Dixon's family for accepting her and called on people to respect their privacy during this time.

"DeOndra was brought into this world in a loving family who treated her like any other family member," the tribute read. "They gave her the gifts of complete acceptance, confidence, and knowledge. They empowered her to graduate with a regular diploma from high school and to take life by storm, which, if you knew DeOndra, she absolutely did."
