The Christmas Chronicles 2 brings back the core cast from the original anchored by Kurt Russell, but a few new faces have been added to the mix. The sequel to 2018's The Christmas Chronicles serves as one of Netflix's most anticipated holiday films for 2020. Chris Columbus, who is best known for directing the first two Home Alone films and multiple Harry Potter adaptations, has shifted from producer to director for the sequel.

The Christmas Chronicles 2 puts Santa Claus back into focus as a new troublemaker emerges. While the Pierce kids were the source of Santa's struggles in the first movie, an elf is responsible for the new predicament in the latest yuletide tale. That said, the Pierce family, particularly Kate, gets swept up into the mess caused by the elf after he poses as a hotel employee while the family is vacationing in Mexico. Kate will once again need to do everything possible to help Santa reclaim Christmas despite her current lack of holiday spirit.

The original film received mixed reviews from critics when it debuted, but that didn't stop over 20 million households from watching the title in its first week. Due to the popularity, Netflix jumped at the chance at a follow-up, propelling the stakes even higher. Here's a breakdown of the cast and characters in The Christmas Chronicles 2.

Kurt Russell reprises his role as jolly ol' Saint Nick for another adventure to save Christmas. This time around, the plot shifts to the North Pole as a rejected elf looks to overthrow Santa. Not only will Father Christmas find help with some familiar faces, but his wife will have a more prominent role as the group faces off with Belsnickel. Russell has over six decades of acting under his belt but some of his most notable roles in The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Backdraft, Death Proof, The Hateful Eight, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the Fast & Furious franchise.

After appearing in a surprise cameo at the very end of the first Christmas Chronicles, Goldie Hawn gets ample time in the sequel in her role as Mrs. Claus. The actress stars alongside her husband for the first time since their 1987 comedy, Overboard. Mrs. Claus assists Santa in overseeing the daily operations of the North Pole, but unlike her husband, she's a bit more authoritative. That will come in handy when Belsnickel wreaks havoc. Aside from Overboard, Hawn is known for her work in Private Benjamin, Death Becomes Her, Housesitter, The First Wives Club, The Out-of-Towners, and more recently, Snatched.

Darby Camp as Kate Pierce: The cynical teenager that reunites with Santa to stop the evil elf from taking over the North Pole. Camp also starred in Benji as well as roles in TV shows like Grey's Anatomy, Big Little Lies, and NOS4A2.

Judah Lewis as Teddy Pierce: Kate's older brother who had his first run-in with Santa years prior. Lewis is also known for his work in Summer of 84, The Babysitter, and its sequel, The Babysitter: Killer Queen.

Kimberly Williams-Paisley as Claire Pierce: Kate and Teddy's widowed mother who takes her children on a trip to Cancun for Christmas. The actress would be recognized for her past roles in Father of the Bride, Father of the Bride Part II, According to Jim, and Nashville.

Julian Dennison as Belsnickel: The evil elf who tries to take over the North Pole. Dennison previously appeared in Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Deadpool 2.

Tyrese Gibson as Bob: Claire's new boyfriend who spends Christmas with the Pierce family in Cancun. Gibson's most notable work includes Baby Boy, Four Brothers, the Transformers franchise, and of course, playing Roman Pearce in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Jahzir Bruno as Jack: Bob's young son who accompanies Kate on her new Christmas adventure. Bruno recently appeared in Atlanta, The Oath, and The Witches remake.

Darlene Love as an airline employee: The worker who tries to cheer up stranded passengers. The acclaimed singer, known for her song "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," is also known for appearing in the Lethal Weapon franchise.
