With the first Sunday of regular-season NFL games here, many are looking at various apps and streaming options to tune in. What is NFL Sunday Ticket, how much does it cost, and can you watch live games on the service?

DirecTV offers NFL Sunday Ticket as a subscription service. Those without DirecTV can only get NFL Sunday Ticket if they live in an area that can’t get service from the satellite TV provider. Another avenue to eligibility is if you live in a multi-unit residence such as an apartment, condo, or dormitory.

NFL Sunday Ticket allows subscribers to enjoy every out-of-market NFL game live on Sundays (excluding international contests). The app can play up to four games on one screen using Game Mix. Yet, an account can only be used on one screen at a time. Additionally, account holders can view up to 20 of their favorite players using the Player Tracker feature. After the action has settled, you can catch up by watching commercial-free games in 30 minutes with Short Cuts.

You can stream from the service on TVs, laptops, tablets, phones, game consoles, and even media streaming devices such as ROKU and Google Chromecast using the NFL Sunday Ticket app. Currently, the service offers two subscription plans, both including one-week free trials.

First, there is NFL Sunday Ticket To Go. This plan contains everything listed above for the price of $73.49 per month for four months or a $293.96 one-time purchase. The second option is NFL Sunday Ticket Max. On top of the previously mentioned items, this plan offers the NFL RedZone and DirecTV Fantasy Zone channels. Due to the additions, the price jumps to $99.00 per month for four months or a $395.99 payment.

It is worth noting that with the NFL Sunday Ticket Max plan, users can add an NFL Game Pass subscription for just $50 (usually $100 for the entire season).

How much does the service cost for students?

Students interested in the service receive a sizeable discount with NFL Sunday Ticket U. They get all the features of NFL Sunday Ticket Max for the price of $29.99 per month for four months or a $119.96 one-time purchase. Students can add NFL Game Pass for $50 as well.

What schools are eligible for NFL Sunday Ticket?

Students currently enrolled in any college or university in the U.S. are eligible for NFL Sunday Ticket U. Furthermore, those who attended a U.S. college or university within the last 18 months from the date of purchase can get in on the deal.

Is NFL RedZone available without NFL Sunday Ticket?

Yes — you can watch NFL RedZone without tethering yourself to a cable contract. To do so, you will need to subscribe to one of these four streaming services: Sling TV, fuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, or YouTube TV. Unfortunately, NFL RedZone cannot be purchased as a standalone service.
