Freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers entered the transfer portal on Friday. Ewers, the No.1-ranked player in the 2021 class according to 247 Sports, enrolled in Columbus ahead of his senior year and took two total snaps — both handoffs in a blowout against Michigan State — this season.

Ewers was initially expected to redshirt for Ohio State before starting quarterback C.J. Stroud was injured ahead of that matchup.

The Southlake, Texas, native is expected to look at schools from his home state, including Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Ewers led Southlake Carroll High School outside of Dallas to the 6A state championship game as a junior while throwing for 2,442 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Ewers’ decision to enroll early allowed him not only to arrive in Columbus sooner but also profit off his name, image and likeness as well as sign NIL deals.
