Patrick Ewing Hospitalized With COVID-19
Georgetown basketball coach and NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing has been hospitalized with COVID-19, the school announced Friday.
“I want to share that I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Ewing said in a statement. “This virus is serious and should not be taken lightly. I want to encourage everyone to stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. Now more than ever, I want to thank the healthcare workers and everyone on the front lines. I'll be fine and we will all get through this."
The school said “Ewing is under care and isolated at a local hospital. He is the only member of the Georgetown men's basketball program to have tested positive for the virus.”
Ewing, 57, was the No. 1 overall pick of the Knicks in the 1985 NBA Draft and also played for the Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic. He was an 11-time NBA All-Star and helped lead the Knicks to the 1994 NBA Finals.
He averaged 22.8 points, 10.4 rebounds and 2.7 blocks during his 15-year career. Ewing was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2008.
At Georgetown, he led the Hoyas to the 1984 NCAA championship and two other Final Fours.
He is 49-46 in three years since taking over as the coach at his alma mater.
