Ravens: 4 surprise cuts the team could make this summer by Justin Fried

The Baltimore Ravens make sense as a potential destination for disgruntled star pass rusher Chandler Jones who reportedly requested a trade from the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported yesterday that Jones had requested a trade as he is unhappy with his current contract situation or his future with the team.

And while the Cardinals don’t seem to be in any hurry to trade him, that hasn’t stopped Ravens players from attempting to recruit the three-time Pro Bowler.

Numerous Ravens players took to Twitter on Sunday to expree their desire to have Jones in Baltimore. Will it lead anywhere? Who knows. But clearly, these Ravens players are doing their best to make it happen.

Ravens players took to Twitter to recruit Chandler Jones.

First it was superstar cornerback Marlon Humphrey, a notable Twitter user, who asked a simple, yet noteworthy question.

Evidently, Humphrey is hoping his team adds another star player to an already talented defense. A fellow defensive back responded to his tweet and decided to reach out to Jones on his own accord.

Humphrey and DeShon Elliott are hoping to see Jones join a stacked Ravens defense at some point in the near future. But it’s not only players on the defensive side of the ball that are looking to recruit Jones.

Even Lamar Jackson got in on the fun.

The Ravens lost the likes of Matt Judon, Yannick Ngakoue, and Jihad Ward in the offseason decimating the depth of a suddenly thin edge rusher group.

Veterans Tyus Bowser and Pernell McPhee are joined by rookies Odafe Oweh and Daelin Hayes, but it’s clear that some work still needs to be done.

There is no sure thing in that group. But Chandler Jones is as close to a sure thing as you’re going to get.

Jones missed most of last season with a torn bicep, but he recorded 11 or more sacks in each of the previous five seasons including a whopping 19 in 2019 alone — a year that saw him earn first-team All-Pro honors.

Baltimore might have trouble making things work from a financial perspective, but there’s no doubt that Jones would be a major upgrade at this point in the offseason.

Ravens fans want it to happen. So too do the players. Now, it’s on the front office to explore this possibility and maybe, just maybe, pull off a blockbuster deal.
