SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING from Barrington Hills to Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights to Chicago's North Side

A thin, but strong line of thunderstorms is moving from west to east, and is expected between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have already been issued in all of Lake County and southeast McHenry. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and severe damaging winds are possible with the thunderstorms.

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING was issued at 1:41 p.m. Thunder is already rumbling north and west of Arlington Heights at 1:30 p.m. The radar image heading toward Arlington Heights has strengthen since the SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH was issued about 30 minutes ago.

The National Weather Service reported at 1:03 p.m. that the office received reports of quarter to golf ball size hail with this storm when it was in northwestern McHenry County.

This Afternoon: Periods of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 3pm and 5pm. High near 87. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 20 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Tonight: Isolated showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 59. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 10%.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 78. West northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 77. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
