The Game Awards, an annual celebration of the year's best video games, will stream live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on December 8. The event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and host Geoff Keighley says viewers can expect the show to run for about two and a half hours.

Keighley says this year's program will be more focused than past years, but there will still be a handful of special announcements and world premiere trailers accompanying the various awards given out during the night.

More than 100 games have been nominated across 32 categories for this year's Game Awards; winners are chosen by a mix of fan voting, gaming media members, and industry stakeholders.

The PlayStation exclusive God of War Ragnarok earned the most nominations with 11, including Game of the Year. Other game of the year nominees include Elden Ring, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Horizon Forbidden West, Stray, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Along with genre-specific awards, The Game Awards also celebrates the developers and artists behind the games, giving out trophies for best vocal performance, best art direction, and best music. Those involved with gaming culture have a chance to win too, with categories like best influencer and best esports team.

How to watch The Game Awards 2022

You can watch The Game Awards 2022 for free on nearly a dozen different platforms, including YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and Steam. The livestream begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on December 8.

The full broadcast will also air in a handful of IMAX movie theaters across the US. Fans can apply to co-stream The Game Awards on their own Twitch and YouTube channels too.

How are the winners of The Game Awards chosen?

The Game Awards winners will be decided by an industry voting jury and fan votes that were held prior to the show. Fan votes weigh about 10% in determining The Game Awards winners in each category, while the industry voting jury comprises the other 90% of the decision.

There is one exception to this process, however, which is the Player's Voice Award. This is the only award decided completely by fan voting this year. Fans were allowed to vote up until December 7 on The Game Awards website.
