Gov. Mike DeWine will speak Wednesday evening about the seriousness of the novel coronavirus in Ohio.

The governor's Wednesday address will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Ohio Channel and radio and TV networks, as well as streamed live online. The timing of the evening address is a departure for DeWine, who typically holds briefings at 2 p.m.

The announcement of Wednesday's address came Tuesday evening after the governor suddenly canceled his afternoon news conference without explanation.

DeWine spokesman Dan Tierney confirmed Tuesday that the governor has not tested positive for the novel coronavirus, nor has there been any other emergency.

As of Tuesday, the Ohio Department of Health reported 67,995 total cases in the state, an increase of 1,142 from Sunday. An additional 134 hospitalizations were reported Tuesday, raising the number of people currently hospitalized to 9,049.

Five new deaths from the virus were reported Tuesday, increasing Ohio's death toll to 3,069.
