Why Post Malone Chooses Not To Discuss Religion With Best Friend Justin Bieber

It’s no surprise that Post Malone and Justin Bieber are close friends. However, these two artists don’t always agree, especially when it comes to religion. According to one publication, Malone even called Bieber’s former church “real culty.”

Here’s what we know about these performers and their friendship.

Bieber has a career spanning several years. Since releasing songs like “Baby” and “Beauty and a Beat,” this artist has earned several awards and millions of streams on Spotify. Additionally, the “What Do You Mean” singer collaborated with newer artists. That includes the “Bad Guy” singer Billie Eilish and “Motley Crew” artist Post Malone.

According to The Things, Malone and Bieber became friends around 2016 — the same year Bieber was featured on the album Stoney. When Bieber embarked on his Purpose world tour, he personally selected the “Sunflower” artist as his opening act. At Coachella 2018, fans saw these artists spending time together with Bieber watching Post Malone’s set.

However, these artists do have differing opinions, especially when it comes to religion. There is no record of Post Malone’s religious affiliations, while Bieber has often shared his Christian beliefs with listeners.

Outside of his music, Bieber is deeply religious, publicly sharing his support of Hillsong church and his Christian beliefs. There were rumors that Bieber canceled one tour to turn his attention toward Christ.

Fans also learned the pop star donated about $10 million to his church. Post Malone, as an artist who is not particularly religious, shared that he doesn’t often discuss Christianity with his friend, even calling Hillsong church “real culty.”

“It’s nice to support something you believe in, I guess,” the “Motley Crew” singer said. “But people are spending so much money, and God doesn’t care that your church has a f*cking gold roof.”

“I do not know Post Malone, and I have no idea why he would say reckless things about our church, which he has never visited,” Carl Lentz, pastor at Hillsong New York City, said to Rolling Stone. “Justin has not given our church $10 million, and we do not have gold ceilings. We do not even own a church building. So that gives you a little insight about how serious you can take his observations about anything to do with us.”

Bieber and his partner, Hailey Baldwin Bieber, have since distanced themselves from Hillsong church.

However, Bieber is not the only celebrity to previously support this church community, as Demi Lovato has also been outspoken regarding their experience in the parish. According to People, Chris Pratt shared how attending the church positively impacted his mental health.

Music by Bieber and Malone, including their songs “Forever” and “Deja Vu,” is available on most major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
