President-elect Joe Biden will nominate Alejandro Mayorkas to lead the Department of Homeland Security, his transition office announced Monday, November 23. Mayorkas, who served as deputy DHS secretary from 2013 to 2016 under the Obama administration, would be the first Latino and immigrant to lead the agency. He is a Cuban-born immigrant. His family fled the Fidel Castro-led revolution.
