Tracking Hurricane Ian: Latest forecast track and models After being downgraded to a tropical storm, Ian redeveloped into a hurricane Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. Ian could slightly strengthen before making its secondary U.S. landfall this afternoon along the South Carolina coast near Charleston. It's forecast to rapidly weaken over the southeastern U.S. late Friday into Saturday, the NHC reported. Flooding and strong winds are likely as well as storm surge along the coast. With the 10 a.m. Friday update, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour with higher gusts as it moves north at 14 mph.
