Chargers coach Anthony Lynn has strange reaction to Tyrod Taylor's freak injury

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn sounded surprisingly nonchalant when asked about a team doctor accidentally puncturing quarterback Tyrod Taylor's lung when administering chest treatment Sunday.

The injury kept Taylor from starting against the Chiefs and will prevent him from playing for the foreseeable future (though he is reportedly not an IR candidate at this point). It could prove career-altering for Taylor, whose setback opens the door for rookie Justin Herbert to take his job.

But Lynn did not consider the matter in those significant terms.

"I'm not angry at all," Lynn told reporters. "It happens."

Any medical procedure comes with risk, even when it's a routine pain injection. Things indeed happen.

But that doesn't mean they're supposed to happen, or that such a mistake is excusable. As part of the CBA, Taylor does not have legal protection for mishaps from team doctors. He likely cannot recoup any form of damages if his punctured lung dramatically alters his career trajectory.

While Lynn should not have been expected to publicly trash the Chargers' medical staff, his tone probably could have been more understanding of what a big deal it is to accidentally puncture the lung of a starting quarterback.
