Fans of trailblazing female rappers Salt-N-Pepa can catch their new biopic tonight, Jan. 23, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Lifetime. You can also watch Salt-N-Pepa the movie on FuboTV, Philo or Sling.
The superstar girl group Salt-N-Pepa was famous for firsts: first platinum-selling female hip-hop group, first female rap group to win a Grammy Award and among the first performers to put a woman’s perspective on a famously male-dominated music genre. Now fans can find out more about Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton’s journey from their days as nursing students at Queensborough Community College in the mid-1980s to their early recordings to game-changing hits like “Let’s Talk About Sex,” “What a Man,” “Shoop” and “Push It.”
Salt-N-Pepa stars GG Townson as Salt, Laila Odom as Pepa, Cleveland Berto as music producer Hurby Azor (who recorded Salt-N-Pepa’s first music), Jermel Howard as rapper Treach and Monique Paul as DJ Spinderella. The film is directed by Mario Van Peebles (New Jack City); James and Denton serve as executive producers.
